Executives at a Texas-based energy company thought they were familiar with most production chemicals for the oil and gas industry. But then they started having trouble with diesel particulate filters in their trucks. Soot clogged the filters, causing the trucks to go into “limp mode.” This put the vehicles out of commission, sometimes stranding drivers on the road in 110-degree Texas heat. The company thought its only solution was to endure each forced exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system regeneration. Each regen cost thousands of dollars in filters and engine oil. Then there were the other costs—downtime for the truck and driver, and damage to other parts of the truck. But then they found a diesel fuel additives solution that saved them in oil well costs.

Costs

Each time one of the energy company’s trucks went into “limp mode,” it had to replace the filters and engine oil. It had trucks going down every two to three days, and it cost $1,000 to $4,000 each time—for parts alone. It also cost them in downtime for the trucks and drivers. In some cases, the drivers were stranded on the road for more than 10 hours. Plus, the forced regens were damaging other parts of the trucks, including the injectors, EGR solenoid valves, and the VGT actuators. This company needed production chemicals for the oil and gas industry that would save money and equipment damage.

How an EGR system works

An EGR system recirculates some of the engine’s exhaust back into the engine’s cylinders. Instead of exiting through the exhaust, the gasses move through the intake system. There, they are combusted again with air and fuel. Its purpose is to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions. But the exhaust can cause wear on the engine because carbon particulates get into the engine oil. Filters on the system take out the soot and ash that comes through the system. But when trucks at an oil well site are idling when pumping or refueling, the buildup accumulates quickly.

Diesel Fuel Additives

The Texas energy company executives hated losing money on trucks in “limp mode.” So they searched for a solution and found Dypex. They added the premium diesel fuel additives and saw results right away. Thirty-eight days into the partnership with Dypex, and the company hadn’t had a single regeneration issue. Executives loved the results, and after only 30 days they switched their whole lubricant line to Dypex products. And they stopped losing money. There are myriad production chemicals for the oil and gas industry on the market. But most of them won’t save you time, equipment, and most importantly, money. When you add our premium diesel fuel additives to your arsenal, you’ll cut costly downtime and repairs. And you’ll improve your company’s bottom line.
