Completions Chemistry

Optimizing Your Completions

Largely because of the water used in completions and fracking, each well produces various types and levels of corrosive bacteria byproducts, scale, and emulsions. Customized chemistry is required to combat these disruptive elements, while other chemistry is required to boost production levels. Simply put—the better the analysis, lab work, and chemistry, the better your production levels and profits.

By mixing specially blended chemistry from ATS ChemFlo™ with fracking fluid, you can optimize your site’s production levels, and the quality and quantity of oil will increase.

New Chemistry Line-Up Reduces Costs and Increases Production

Acid Treatments: The presence of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and iron deposits in free water can cause severe corrosion problems. Factors such as temperature, H2S, and CO2 content, water chemistry, flow velocity, oil or water wetting, steel composition, and surface condition influence the internal corrosion in wells and pipelines. A small change in one of these elements can improve corrosion rates considerably.

ChemFlo’s acid treatment additives reduce H2S corrosion and iron deposits, allowing your facility to lower current pumping pressure. Also, these additives reduce iron-stabilized emulsions at the reservoir.

Scale Inhibitors: Water-soluble and iron tolerant scale inhibitors prevent alkaline based metal deposits, such as calcium carbonate, calcium sulfate, and barium sulfate, from forming; this keeps your oil flowing by reducing site downtime and increasing the life of costly pipes and equipment.

Shale Stability: Clay and shale stability additives are designed to coat the rock layer; this prevents formation deterioration and reduces fine particle migration. Testing each formation is key to creating a chemistry that addresses unique rock types thus maximizing production. By cataloging significant shale formation and conducting extensive testing, ChemFlo blends the right formula for each formation.

Surface Tension Reduction: Custom-engineered additives are designed to decrease water surface tension, which helps stabilize emulsions and prevents them from forming. The amount of water that emulsifies in crude oil varies widely from location to location—in some cases, it’s less than 1%, while other times it’s greater than 80%.

Bacteria Control Additive: ChemFlo’s custom-blended biocides, which prevent sulfate-reducing and acid-producing bacteria from forming, fight bacteria for up to 180 days. These biocides increase profits by reducing the number of treatments and chemicals currently required to combat your bacteria problems.

5 Steps to Increase Your Completions Profits

ChemFlo’s five-step process reduces costly maintenance shut-downs and increases current production volumes. The extensive site analysis, detailed lab work, and applying of customized chemistry blends result in optimal production levels for each well. Here’s how ChemFlo does it:

  1. State-of-the-art data collection captures on-site analysis for each well’s water source and core samples
  2. Extensive laboratory evaluation of water, bacteria, H2S, emulsions, scaling, etc. extract the data needed to create custom-blended chemistry
  3. Evaluation of current on-site applications and processes allows for the formulation and implementation of new custom chemistry
  4. Ongoing testing and historical database tracking help fine tune production levels
  5. If needed, chemistry adjustments and measuring improvements assist in ensuring optimal performance
